(s)HAPPY (p)ONAM

sHAPPY malayalis resting after earnestly contributing to the state's exchequer. High highness King Maveli will be proud of these patriotic souls.
During the Onam season this year, from 10th to 13th of September, the sale of alcohol by the BevCo (the government monopoly selling alcohol in retail in Kerala) recorded significant increase in the sale of alcohol. This has been a consistent trend. In Calicut district alone, compared to the corresponding period last year, they had excess sale of Rs. 75 lakhs. The total sale during these 4 days was for Rs 6 crores in Calicut district alone!
A very Happy Onam indeed !

hi, a picture is worth a thousand words, they say. If we were shown photos of the inside of a brewery, we would probably admire the process, the machinery, and usually the owner as well, if he has come back from his holiday in Switzerland ! But when we see the photos of the business end of the distillery, which is the intermals of human beings, many among us would turn away in disgust. The people in the pictures above are a splendid example of their absolute integration into their society ! An example of accepting the whole world as your family, practically demonstrated. One wonders if a day will come when we can sleep fearlessly like that on the grass, wherever we like, whenever we like, minus the alcholic stupor. The only place in the world where we can do that, without fear of losing life, limb, goods or dignity, as far as my knowledge goes, is Norway. Thank you

hi that earlier comment was more in jest. Dönt you think a discussion on the psychology of religion would be appropriate, considering the prevailing disaffections, in all religions in our country ? Thank you
